Tia Walker received her B.S. degree in biology from Cleveland State University in 2005. She participated in leading industry research before pursuing a Ph.D. in chemistry. Tia was awarded her Ph.D. degree from The University of Akron in 2012 working under the direction of Michael J. Taschner in the area of synthetic organic chemistry. Tia has worked closely with Christopher J. Ziegler to apply her research towards bioinorganic chemistry.


Tia is interested in the synthesis of small molecules and their applications with metal chelation. Current work in her group is focused on the synthesis of new tunable ligands for applications in medicinal chemistry. Tia is also an advocate for STEM based undergraduate research and has been a member of the council on undergraduate research since 2016 in addition to mentoring student projects for IN LSAMP.
